I think it has helped me to see the things I do that get into my way of experiencing joy and getting to know people.

     -----------------------------------------------------

I learned something about myself and it wasn't a painful experience as I thought it would be.  I really felt that I experienced growth through this class.

-----------------------------------------------------

I think this has been a special group for me, because I feel really safe, and can say how I really am feeling, as opposed to what I think you want to hear

-----------------------------------------------------

I found that a lot of the questions helped me see self-imposed roadblocks that might be getting in the way of connecting with people or with community or experiencing joy. The sharing within the group helped me envision different ways of going about some of that.

I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it. …sometimes I felt some of it was like I don't want to have to think about this at this point in my life (I’ve decided to go through life “with slippers on”) I’m willing  to take on hard stuff still, but I do think that I have a bit of a different attitude about it. I think it was beautifully done.

-----------------------------------------------------

I got a lot out of it, which always surprises me, because I've been doing this kind of work for years — about 40 plus years in 12-step recovery — and I find that I always have new answers to the questions in the book. They say life is a spiral where you revisit the same issues, but at another level, and so I like doing this work. I use the words “compound interest” to describe the benefits of doing it again and again. We have this opportunity to grow. My fantasy is that all of you at some point would form another group of five or six or eight people and do this work again for yourselves, and in the process help other people.

-----------------------------------------------------

Knowing that we were coming together with other people that I could talk about things is really beneficial. I think also just slowing down enough to stop, pause and think about patterns in my life, think about the relationships in my life, think about the values in my life, noting and recognizing things from a long, long time ago that are still affecting me today. [This work] reminds us that we’re communal people, that we need others, and we’re doing work with others to help us get better at doing the work.

-----------------------------------------------------

After what I did yesterday (quarreling horribly with my father), today I am in a state of a self-confidence and quietness after our [meeting]. Thank you. I will find the way to communicate without crushing the dignity – mine or his.
